Executive Director of Veterans Initiatives
Major General (Ret) Smith served almost 32 years in the Regular Army and Army National Guard, 26 of which were on active duty. He has extensive leadership experience in conventional units as well as the strategic and interagency environments. MG (Ret) Smith has led deployed Infantry units as a Company, Battalion, and Brigade Commander in Iraq, Afghanistan, Georgia, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and numerous European locations. He served five years in various strategic positions in The Pentagon. Between his periods of active-duty, MG (Ret) Smith was in the top 10% of retail stockbrokers at Morgan Stanley, earned an MBA at Goizueta Business School, and served as a global marketing manager for IBM’s consulting business.
