Biography

Having the right tools for the job is a key component for anyone looking to advance their career. For Jeffery Adams, he found the tools and resources offered through Goizueta’s Master of Finance program invaluable as he looked to transition his career.

After completing his undergraduate at Alcorn State University, the Ghana-native worked fulltime as a sales and trading analyst at Bank of America. However, Jeffery was looking for a change. “I feel like coming to Emory University and having the opportunity to learn under these distinguished professors was a step in the right direction for me,” Jeffery says. “I also needed a change in career, so I think coming here actually gave me the opportunity to better assess my skillset and know where I want it to be.”

The masters in finance program has opened many doors for Jeffery to not only improve upon the skillset he needed professionally, but also personally. He’s been able to work with tools such as Bloomberg and also learn the language of Python, a completely new experience for him.

“I've had the opportunity to use a lot of tools and classes that have actually enhanced my skillset and shown me different parts of financial services that I could actually have my skillset better suited for,” he says. “I feel like the tools that I've learned and the skills that I've gained throughout this program are immeasurable.”

In addition to building his skillset, his experience with the professors was not only a deciding factor for him entering the program, but has proved more valuable than he could have ever imagined. “It's a very demanding career, and professors who've been there give you a heads up in what to expect,” Jeffery says.

His experience in the program quickly paid off as he accepted a job at Mesirow Financial as an investment banking analyst.

“It's a career switch for me, but it's all due to the fact that I was able to equip my skillset in the program and see where I feel like my career will be better suited for,” he says. “I'm actually excited because I think everything that I dreamed of coming into this program, learning and actually seeing where my skills are better utilized, went the perfect way now that I have the opportunity to go into an investment banking career.”
